Brief History of TRPS
After Raviji was conferred with the esteemed Dayawati Modi Foundation Award for Art, Culture & Education in 1996, he was inspired to recognize and honor underappreciated senior artists who had greatly contributed to the field of visual arts. In 1998, Raviji and Mrs. Smita Paranjape established The Ravi Paranjape Foundation with this objective in mind.
Raviji aimed to counter the unhealthy trend that had prevailed due to the blind imitation of Western influences, where in the name of modern art, shallow art forms were promoted, accorded undue prestige, and accompanied by misleading and excessive praise of artists nurturing such substandard work.
Raviji sought to honor the meritorious artists who, without being swayed by these currents, made highly significant contributions to the field of visual arts, yet did not receive the recognition they truly deserved from mainstream platforms.

Raviji’s father, Shri K. R. Paranjape, was instrumental in nurturing Raviji’s artistic pursuits from a very early age and supported him through every challenge he encountered in his professional as well as personal life.
In 1998, the Foundation instituted the biennial ‘K. R. Paranjape Gunijan Kala Puraskaar’ in honour of Raviji’s father. The Foundation ceremoniously felicitated the selected artists with a commemorative plaque and an honorarium. The Foundation also established the ‘Ravi Paranjape Yuva Puraskaar’ for young, aspiring artists, in collaboration with Sanjeev and Nisha Nene, USA.
Below is the list of all distinguished artists honored by the Foundation.
After its initial objective was achieved, the Foundation took a long and deliberate break from the Gunijan Kala Puraskaar to focus on other activities. Foundation redefined the award and recognized professional artists who believed in the philosophy of soulful and truthful expression and who made valuable contributions to the field of visual arts; before formally concluding it.
Over the span of twenty-five years Foundation organized several educative seminars, art appreciation events, and Indian classical music concerts as part of its community outreach efforts. The Foundation also published many books authored by Raviji.
The Ravi Paranjape Foundation further evolved into The Ravi Paranjape Studio (TRPS) – Art Gallery and Forum for Design-based Culture.
Today, at its Model Colony Pune premises, TRPS carries forward Raviji’s vision of design-based culture through its tri-fold mission:
Preserve – Nurture – Inspire
-

Nurture creativity by providing resources, and a supportive environment
